U.S. Market Slips, Asian Shares Trade Mixed, SGX Nifty Hints At Negative Start On D-Street

Equity markets took a breather last week on profit booking at higher levels and mixed global global cues. Analysts say despite the negative returns last week, the overall strength in the market remains intact.

Meanwhile, Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 19.5 points, or 0.11 per cent, lower at 18,218.50, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for negative start on Monday.

US stocks closed out the trading week on a soft note on Friday as early gains dissipated after U.S. debt ceiling negotiations in Washington were paused, denting optimism a deal could be reached in coming days to dodge a default.

Asian stocks and Wall Street futures slipped on Monday as U.S. debt ceiling negotiations approached crunch time after stalling last week, while lingering banking fears and fresh geopolitical worries capped sentiment.
