THE FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE IRS FOUND NO TAX RELATED FRAUD CONNECTED TO AN IDENTITY THEFT RING AT THE JAIL. THE FRAUD INVESTIGATION FIRST CAME TO LIGHT BACK IN JANUARY. AT LEAST 18 INMATES HAD THEIR IDENTITIES COMPROMISED. TWO FORMER DETENTION OFFICERS, A FOOD SERVICE WORKER AND AN INMATE WERE ALL CHARGED IN THIS CASE, OLDER TEENS IN NORTH CAROLINA COULD ONCE AGAIN FIND THEMSELVES CHARGED AS ADULTS IF THEY GET ARRESTED. LAWMAKERS IN RALEIGH APPROVED CHANGES MADE BY THE SENATE TO HOUSE BILL 834. IF GOVERNOR ROY COOPER SIGNS THE LEGISLATION INTO LAW, IT WILL REVERSE CHANGES PASSED IN 2019 THAT ALLOWED 16 AND 17 YEAR OLDS TO BE TRIED IN JUVENILE COURTS. A VOTE IS EXPECTED TO BE HELD TODAY ON A DEANNEXATION BILL AFFECTING THE TOWN OF SUMMERFIELD. ACCORDING TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY’S WEBSITE, THE MEASURE IS ON THE SENATE CALENDAR FOR TODAY. LAWMAKERS HAVE DELAYED TAKING A VOTE ON HOUSE BILL FIVE MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE. WE KNOW, IF APPROVED, THE MEASURE WOULD REMOVE CLOSE TO A THOUSAND ACRES FROM SUMMERFIELD TOWN LIMITS FOR A HOUSING AND RETAIL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT. TOWN LEADERS A

The City of Greensboro has shut down a restaurant due to gunshot complaints among other issues. The Lost Diamond was a new restaurant at 948 Walker Ave., but the city said it had been operating as a nightclub. After finding it was working like a nightclub, the fire department and the City’s zoning enforcement team immediately closed the establishment. Zoning will issue a notice of violations for illegal use (proximity to residential) and new use without proper permitting.
