
AMD and OpenAI are teaming up in a multi-year agreement that will see the ChatGPT maker deploy over 6 gigawatts worth of AMD GPUs. As per the press release, OpenAI will start using AMD’s Instinct MI450 series GPUs in the second half of 2026.

The news comes less than a month after OpenAI announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia, with the chip maker investing $100 billion in OpenAI and deploying 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems.

As part of the new deal, AMD will be OpenAI’s “core strategic compute partner”. AMD and OpenAI are also set to build key infrastructure that meets the growing demands for AI applications. OpenAI is also set to receive over 160 million shares of AMD stock pending “specific milestone” achievements.
